Smiles

I've been showing Mommy and Daddy my smile for the past few days. I only do it once in a while, so it's been tough to get a pic, but this is the closest one Mommy could snap. I'll start smiling more in another week or two, and then you can see a pic of a real Jonah smile.A few posts ago I promised to tell you about what's on my heiny. Mommy and Daddy are trying to use cloth diapers. We have a GREAT stash of Bum Genius diapers that we received at Mommy's baby shower, but right now these are too big for my tiny heiny (but not for long, I'm really getting a bit roly poly). So they bought a few different types in smaller sizes. Our favorite type is Fuzzi Bunz pocket diapers -- the don't leak and they're easy to use! Mommy's been trying to get to the Papaya Patch all day today to buy a few more, but I just feel so hungry I don't want to stop eating, so I won't give her a chance to go. I think this constant eating is contributing to my newly voluptuous figure. We also like the Imse Vimse diaper covers. Please ignore my cry face -- I was a bit irritated because I was wet and Mommy was spending too much time taking photos and not enough time changing me.Today we also tried out Bummis Super Whisper Wrap, which was previously too big for me. I liked it! But we only have one of them for now.

Is Your Name Luigi?

I want to tell you the story of my name, Jonah Gino. Mommy and Daddy liked my first name a lot, but were a little hesitant to use it because in the Bible, Jonah is kind of a stubborn prophet who just won't listen to reason -- or to God, even after God aims a storm at Jonah's boat and then causes a big fish to swallow him up and spit him out on shore a few days later. But my parents really liked the name, so here I am, Jonah Gino! I promise not to be so obstinate and to make my own name in the world...but if you really need me to do something, well -- let's just say this is how Mommy gets me to take a nap:My middle name came from my great grandfather, Gino Tosolini, who died exactly one year ago today. He had a good, long life, but I wish it could have been just a little bit longer, so I could have met him. Mommy wrote a little tribute to him last year. I'm glad that I still have 3 great grandparents to hang out with! Gigi (Grandpa Gino's wife), and Daddy's Grandma and Grandpa in Florida. Here's me and Gigi, at the hospital:Grandpa Gino, we miss and love you! I hope you can see me!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my one month birthday. Yippee! Incidentally, happy 30-something birthday to Mommy's friend Amy, too!
To celebrate, we went for a walk in the glorious sunshine.
And then I lost my sock and passed out.Sounds like a good birthday, right?

Cry Freedom!

I cried my first tears yesterday! First the right eye, then a little while later, the left. Mommy didn't take any pictures because while they were really really cute tears, I look so sad when I cry, and no one wants to think of a sad Jonah. So here's me NOT being sad:Last night, while Mommy was putting away all of the clothes that our neighbor Tammy brought over from her son, Doc tried to help.Mommy did a little photo shoot with me today, to show how much I've grown in the past few weeks. Here is a picture of me on Feb. 8, about 2 weeks ago.And here is a shot of me today, wearing the same outfit. Do I look bigger? I grew a double chin!I was a really happy baby this morning. Maybe it's because I slept a lot last night (and so did Mommy and Daddy). This afternoon I took a series of long naps.

Aunt Kerry's parents gave me another really cute outfit!Damn, I'm cute. Oh! My first curse word!

Out and about

Today I spent almost the whole day away from home with Mommy. We went out to lunch with my cousins Sam and Brady and Aunt Kerry, and then we hung out at their house for a nice long time. Sam LOVES me -- she is such a good cousin and will be a wonderful big sister in July. She covered me up with a blanket, held me and helped burp me. It's so nice to be so loved by such a great family. I can't wait to see her and Brady again this weekend!
Aunt Kerry refreshed her newborn skills with me so she would ready in July.
On the way home we stopped at our new favorite store in West Hartford Center -- The Papaya Patch. In a future post, I'll tell you all about what's on my heiny -- they sell them at The Papaya Patch, and the shop also has a GREAT back room with rocking chairs, boppies, a nice changing table -- everything Mommy needs to fix me up good when I start crying.

When we got home, there was a Gymini waiting for me! Daddy's college friends, Greg and Christa, sent me this really cool gift. Thanks, guys!
Hey Grandma and Grandpa, don't I look ready for Aruba in this outfit? But it's supposed to SNOW tomorrow!Don't forget to vote in the "Who Do I Look Like Poll" 0n the top right-hand side of my blog!

Poll: Who do I most resemble?

This isn't 100% apples to apples, since Mommy's picture was taken right after she was born and Daddy's was taken when he was 8 months old, but here's a fun poll for everyone to take. Who do I look more like?

Daddy?
Me, for comparison...Mommy?
Or Brady?

Lunch date!

Normally I don't get a chance to post 2x in one day, but I just had to tell you all about my visit from the beautiful Kim. I like her. She owns a spa, and she promised to give me my first back wax when I'm older. And I'm pretty sure she's in love with me, too...
Kim treated Mommy and I to lunch, and then we went home and acted silly. Look at that --
Mommy finally let me have a pacifier last night...it is NICE!
I spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out with Doc...And reading Walt Whitman!

Just showing off my outfit

Look what my Godmother-to-be Anne sent me!
Don't I look much cuter in it when I'm not crying? I'm happy because I found out that Anne is coming to visit me next month. Or maybe because Mommy fed me...I also wanted to report that due to the balmy weather yesterday (near 60!) Mommy and I went for our first walk. Of course there are no pictures of this historic event because A). Mommy forgot the camera and B). I was starting to cry when we got back so Mommy didn't have a chance to get the camera. Can you guess why I was crying then, too?

A great day!

Today my friends from the old neighborhood came to visit. Emily was so excited to hold me!And I was happy to have Marcia snuggle me all day, even though I look kind of cranky here -- it wasn't Marcia, I was just hungry. Also, Mommy put me in the Moby Wrap that my friend Malaika sent me. Mommy was so excited to receive this really cool present, but she had a little bit of trouble getting the tying/wrapping part right. Then suddenly today we made it work perfectly! This wrap is the best thing ever -- Mommy said she feels liberated, and I feel nice and snuggled. Here's a Mommy's eye view of me. Thanks, Malaika!

Shout outs

There are a couple of people I want to say hello to today.

First off, Grandma and Grandpa are now in Aruba, enjoying warm temperatures and clear waters. They called to say hi today. I'm kind of jealous, as are Mommy and Daddy, as today the temperature did not get above freezing here and I really haven't been able to spend any time outside -- EVER IN MY LIFE! Can you imagine? Look, I'm so ready to go out!I also want to say hi to Cio Cia Pat and Uncle Andy. Cio Cia Pat crocheted me this beautiful blanket! And last but not least, hello to Theresa, Cindy, Uncle Jim and Cio Cia Marcella. I heard that they are checking on me via my blog, too, and that makes me so happy!

I thought you guys were extinct!!!

So there I was, innocently having some tummy time in my bedroom, when out of NOWHERE, three rainbow-hued dinosaurs approached me...
Being only three weeks old, I couldn't do anything to get away...I could only watch in horror as they came closer!Soon they were right on top of me. What's a boy to do???It turns out they just wanted to cuddle. Even cold-blooded reptiles can't resist!

Knitwear!

I just wanted to show everyone some of the fun stuff my friends in Mommy's knitting group out in Michiana made for me. There was tons more, and the pics will come as I grow into the clothes! But for now, here are some cool socks that Aubrey made me (both these and the blue ones she made fit me PERFECTLY right now!) NYC Rachele gave me the cool Eric Carle outfit, btw.
Here is a cuddly and colorful teddy bear made by Carol.
And last but not least, here is me just being cute.

A visit from my midwestern grandparents

Daddy's parents, Babu and Papa, came to visit us this weekend. They drove out from Michigan just to meet me! They brought me some cute outfits but Babu is going to bring them back to the store because I am getting SO BIG! As of Friday I weighed 7lbs 12oz -- that means I gained more than 1-1/2 lbs in 2 weeks! That's a good job on my part!I wasn't a very useful host -- I spent most of the time sleeping with whoever would hold me. And believe me, everyone wanted to hold me, so I slept around! Grandma and Grandpa came to see Babu, Papa and me too. I'm always sleeping when Grandma is here.

More baby news!

I found out today that I'm going to have a girl cousin! Aunt Kerry and Uncle Mike had their big ultrasound today, and they said my cousin is very very active, just like her big sister, Sam. And her name is going to be...I don't know, they won't tell me! But that's okay, I'm just excited to meet her in July.
I went to the doctor's office today to get my cold checked out, and I pooped on the nurse while she was trying to take my temperature. Hey, that orifice is EXIT ONLY!!! But besides that little incident, I do just have a mild cold and it should go away soon. In the meantime mommy is having fun using the booger sucking bulb on my nose.

Cuddling

I have a little baby cold today, so I was not sleeping a lot last night. But now I'm enjoying some catch up sleep, and while I snooze away, mommy wanted to show everyone how much I like to snuggle - anywhere, any time.
